Assignment 1 Due February 28, 2002
There are two computer assignments for the week of February 12-15 and 18-22. The first assignment is to investigate fading multipath channels with doppler using the Capsim simulation environment. In this assignment you will predict the behaviour of a fading channel with vehicle motion and check your predictions against simulation results.
In the second assignment you will simulate an end to end QPSK microwave digital communication link with Capsim. Note that the baseband section of the simulation is very close to actual hardware implementation.
In this assignment you will predict the probability of error for the link and compare the prediction with simulation results. You will also investigate the effect of roll-off factor in Nyquist pulse shaping on the signal bandwidth and intersymbol interference for the communication link.. Furthermore, you will investigate the effect of carrier offset on the constellation.
Once you have setup Capsim, go through the tutorial. The tutorial is provided as a PDF file here. There are some slight differences between the version of Capsim in the tutorial and the latest version you will be using.
