Functional MRI Imaging Techniques

Traditionally data has been analyzed by visual evaluation of image slices on radiological film.   Digital representation of this data is rarely the norm despite the increased use of computers.  To make use of the huge amount of data contained in fMRI scans, a doctor needs a composite image for making a quantitative rather than qualitative diagnoses.   The clinically important features need to be extracted from the image, whether that is blood flow, tumor size, or cortical activity.   In the case of fMRI it is necessary to know exactly where the areas of cortical stimulation are located.
