I had help identifying this flower from August Burns (the departmental Business Manager at the Fitzpatrick institute for Photonics at Duke University) and her mom, Phyllis Burns. The unusual flower is called ‘Passifloraceae’, the Passion flower, Maypop, or the Trinity flower by some who associate it with a cross, crown, and something else Christ-related. It is also used as a medicine plant (sedative). |
