Protest Campaign against the Parbati River Valley ProjectNew
Here is a letter that can be sent to the Prime Minister of India regarding the Parbati River Valley Project and the proposed laying of the foundation stone of the project by him sometime next week. We request that all should urgently send letters / faxes to the PMs office raising concern about the issues involved. You will recollect that a few months ago a part of the Great Himalayan National Park was denotified to make way for this project and that a number of protest letters had been sent out even then.
The PMs fax number is 3016857 / 3019545

Goa's new sanctuaries threatened by denotification
People must have already have read about the declaration of two new protected areas in Goa and about the already increasing pressures for denotification. These areas form corridors between existing PAs and are subject to a lot of pressure, especially from commercial forces. One of the chief culprits is mining.

Protest Campaign against extending the Mining Lease in favour of KIOCL in Kudremukh National Park
Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd. (KIOCL) is mining in the core area of the Kudremukh National Park, an area generally characterised by "some dense and well preserved evergreen forestsand includes shola vegetation typical of the Western Ghats".

GREAT HIMALAYAN PARK DENOTIFIED!The Great Himalayan National Park is one of Himachal Pradesh's best stretches of Himalayan ecosystem, harbouring several endangered species. On May 28, 1999, the H.P. Govt. quietly denotified over 10 sq.km. (1000 ha.) of this Park, ostensibly to allow two villages inside to continue staying where they were and not have to displace them. The real reason: the proposed Parbati River Valley (H-E) Project.
